Of course if you take other drugs that need to be taken with food, this means Sonata is not a good choice to add to your sleep combo. If I took it with food, I found it hardly worked at all. If you do decide to use Sonata, I feel it works MUCH better if taken on an empty stomach. After a few weeks it certainly didn't prompt my body to sleep as quickly as it did the first few times I took it. Ah yes, one more negative aspect.I did feel like it began to lose it's potency over time.

It's a shame, because I feel Sonata would be a dream come true if it allowed me to sleep a full 8 hours. Except then I was wide awake, yet still groggy from the other drugs. Nevertheless, I still found myself waking up at 4 a,m. I tried combining Sonata with other drugs that are designed to work for longer periods of time. My doctor had warned me that the drug only works for about four hours, and literally EXACTLY four hours after taking the med I would bolt out of bed feeling completely wide awake and absolutely unable to fall back asleep. When I looked at the clock, it was 4 a.m. I was thrilled! Sadly, after dozing off so comfortably, the next thing I knew I was wide awake. Instead, I yawned, and felt as if my body was naturally deciding to fall asleep.

However my weariness did not have a "drugged" feel. About fifteen minutes after taking the pill, I suddenly began to feel sleepy. I clearly remember the first night I took Sonata. Due to the problems I will mention, I discontinued it after that time. However about 8 months ago, i did try the drug for a period of about two months. Short life for Sonata I do not currently take Sonata. Neither my insurance company, nor my wallet liked that so I went to the doc and began what has become a 6-month search for the perfect sleep-aid for me.

I quickly developed a tolerance, and was forced to double the dose to get to sleep. My few times a week sleeping pill was now a nightly must.

Fast-forward several years to a sudden relocation and going from working 3 days a week (hate me all you want, they were 24hour days) in a stress free line level position, to working M-F 8:30-5 stressful management level position. I did have amnesia that began about 20 minutes after taking the pill, my significant other would always use this opportunity to see how I REALLY thought about something, all with me not remembering it the next day. The hallucinations stopped after the 2nd dose. Went right to sleep, and was able to wake up 6 hours later bright eyed and bushy tailed. I began taking it very occasionally 1-3 times a week, average of once a week. I always have problems waking up, and certainly don’t need a long acting drug to complicate the matter. Once I am asleep I am and always have been fine. I was working mostly nights, and had trouble adjusting to days off etc. I started taking sonata after a friend who was in school for pharmacy recommended it to me after I described my problems to her. It is not however for those who wake up during the night, or long term use. Not for everyone, but perfect for some Sonata’s rapid onset, and short half-life make it perfect for occasional use by people who simply have trouble falling asleep.
